Protecting Mother Earth in 2023

Earth’s fragile balance needs our protection.

Earth Day is coming, but here at Plantiva every day is Earth Day. We take protecting the planet seriously!

We’re constantly on the lookout for new and better ways to reduce our footprint on the Earth. Here are just a few of the steps we’ve taken:

Glass bottles: We made the switch to glass bottles several years ago, to reduce the amount of plastic waste we produce. Most plastic bottles are no longer recyclable, but glass remains recyclable across the USA. In addition, the empty glass bottles from our products can be re-used in many ways – as spice jars, candle holders, or even garden cloches to sprout seeds!

Tamper-evident bottle seals: We switched from full-body plastic sleeves to neck bands on our bottles several years ago. This change dramatically reduced the amount of plastic in our packaging.

Packing materials: We reuse, recycle, or compost all the cardboard packing materials we receive with our shipments. In addition, we use 100% biodegradable, corn-based packing peanuts for our consumer shipments. They dissolve in water and they smell a bit like popcorn! (Sometimes they make us hungry when we’re working in the warehouse!)

Greenhouse emissions: We minimize our greenhouse gas production wherever possible. Our Oregon office runs on solar energy, and our work environments are organized to minimize car travel. Our employees commute by car an average of less than 10 miles per day, and most of them walk to work!

Supply chain: We prioritize sourcing from sustainable growers who do not use chemical pesticides or fertilizers, and we use only water and ethanol to make our extracts – never harsh synthetic chemicals like methanol or hexane.

Land stewardship: We’ve planted the land surrounding our Oregon office with a wide variety of native and medicinal plants, and spent countless hours weeding out invasive species by hand. We’re lucky to be located in one of the most botanically diverse regions of the country, and we want our property to highlight the rich diversity of plants and provide habitat for the numerous species of animals and insects that call this region home.

We’ll never stop looking for new ways to improve our operations, to treat the planet with respect and preserve it for future generations. This is one of the foundational principles of our company!
